I’m an entrepreneur, professional photographer, and artist.

My passion for photography was ignited years ago during a deep-sea fishing expedition, about 20 miles outside of San Diego harbor, my hometown. As the fishing crew cleaned our catch of the day on our way back to the dock, seagulls swarmed around, following the fish droppings. It was in that moment that I captured an iconic shot—a seagull perched on the tip of the bait held by my son, against a backdrop of deep blue sky and not a single cloud. As a novice at the time, that experience hooked me and sparked my love for photography.

Throughout my career in business, which involved extensive domestic and international travel, my camera became a constant companion. Whenever I had spare moments, I would immerse myself in my surroundings, finding inspiration in the unique and captivating places I encountered.

In 2013, I made a life-changing decision to sell my technology consulting firm and fully pursue my passion for photography. This led me to establish PJR Photography and Studio, LLC—a photography studio and art gallery. Through this venture, I provided a platform for other artists, offering specialized photoshoots, studio rentals, and individual artist gallery shows. It was during this time that I developed a profound appreciation for the art of portrait photography. I derived great satisfaction from capturing the essence of my subjects by getting up close and personal. Some of my most notable photographs originated from the open studio shoots I organized for fellow artists. My objective was to share the joy of studio photography and enable other photographers to explore this unique setting. While many photographers heavily rely on natural lighting for their work, I believe in the art of capturing light itself, and the studio environment allowed me to truly master this technique.
