Jean Harlow Portrait in Pastels

The Jean Harlow portrait in pastels by Arne Hansen was inspired by the lighting and Jean Harlow's expression on the source image. For this reason, I began my artistic process; first I study the image and then decide on the tones and brush processes to use. My overall approach is a photo to paint. The actual processing and techniques are as follows: Beginning with an open-source black and white image used for ArtRage reference. Firstly, I lay in the light and dark values to establish proportions and form.  By utilizing various brush settings and sizes, I achieve the textures I want. At this point in the process, I lay in various colors, brush shapes, textures, and blend modes to achieve this Jean Harlow pastel portrait "Paint to Photo" image.
